History and Outline

[Toyama City Museum]
Toyama City Museum opened originally as a folk museum in the three-story, four-layer Castle Tower built in 1954 to commemorate the holding of the Toyama Industrial Expo following reconstruction from war. On November 3, 2005, it reopened as a history museum dedicated to permanent exhibitions that introduce the 460-year-long history of Toyama Castle from its construction in medieval times to the present, under the theme “Toyama Castle Story.”
[Sato Memorial Art Museum of Toyama]
The Sato Memorial Art Museum was opened in 1951 along with the establishment of a foundation by the late Sato Sukekuro, an entrepreneur and master of the tea ceremony from Tonami City, Toyama. The building and collection were donated to Toyama City in 2002. The museum comprises an older building of castle architecture and a single-story new building surrounding it. In addition to exhibition rooms, it contains the tea rooms Ryuteian and Joan, and an all-hinoki cypress hall relocated from the Sato residence.
