Murakami Folk Material Room
History and Outline
They say that the Murakami family residence was built in 1578. This house is preserved in its original “Kirizuma-Gassho-zukuri” style (a house with a thatched gable roof) which was architecture introduced by samurai residence in the Age of Civil Wars. This is a sectional building extended “Oku-no-de-e” (the room where the family Buddhist altar is situated) and “Hikae-no-ma” (a waiting room) in the mid Edo period. The design detail of this ordinary house still remains from the old days. This house was recognized as the most excellent remnant having basic style and structure of the Gokayama district, and designated as a national important cultural asset in May 1958.
