History and Outline

The second fairground that sponsored by Toyama Prefecture, which was founded in September 1913, was cherished by people as the first aquarium on the Japan Sea coast. It was reconstructed as the second Toyama Industrial Exhibition ground in April 1934 and it became the Uozu Aquarium in April 1981. This aquarium, which features various forms of life in the Japan Sea, is a nature science museum and aims to contribute to the local community as the place of lifelong learning and scientific research.

Collection and Exhibition

Displays about 5000 kinds of fish collected from many habitats both in Japan and overseas around a core of fish from mountain torrent in the Northern Alps to the depths of the sea. This aquarium features equipment such as the subtropical freshwater fish department, a wave tank, the cold current and deep-sea fish department, a tank to touch inshore fish, a 240ton marine tank and the enjoyable show. When you go through the submarine tunnel, you feel like you are under the sea conversing with the creatures that live within.

15 minutes walk from JR Higashi-Namerikawa Station on the JR Hokuriku Line or Toyama Chiho Railway Nishi-Uozu Station. 7 minutes by car from JR Uozu Station on the JR Hokuriku Line. 15 minutes by car from Hokuriku Expressway Uozu I.C. or Namerikawa I.C.
